Indicators of organic carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus accumulation in lake sediments of the Chuvash Republic were analyzed. Lakes of trans-Volga Lowlands and the pre-Volga Upland demonstrated a differentiation by the content of carbon and nitrogen in their sediments, associated with the productivity characteristics of lakes in the northern and the southern geographic provinces. No such differentiation was observed for the phosphorus content. The distribution of organic carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus within the top 1‑meter of the sediments was quasi-stationary.
