Dear colleagues,
We hereby invite you to take part in the 5th International Young Scientists Conference devoted to the 25th anniversary of the Northern Water Problems Institute of KarRC RAS and 70th anniversary of the Karelian Research Centre RAS.
In 2010 NWPI KarRC RAS organized the 1st International Field School “European Great Lakes – Lake Onego”. The event exposed the high significance of interactive information exchange in field research practices.
In 2012 the 2nd International Field School “European Great Lakes – Lake Onego” took place. This event, which has become regular, is an extension of the institute’s targeted work for training talented youth for a scientific career, carried out in collaboration with Russian and foreign higher educational institutions and research institutes.
In 2013 the 3rd International Workshop “Cross-border catchments: Finland and Russia – the White Sea drainage basin” was organized, including a field trip to the White Sea and a session for young scientists.
In 2014 the NWPI Research and Education Centre, together with NWPI Young Scientists Council and RGS Division in the Republic of Karelia, organized the 4th International Youth Conference and School “Seas, lakes and cross-border catchments of Russia, Finland and Estonia”.
In 2016 the conference and workshop will include keynote lectures by reputable scientists, oral and poster presentations by Master and PhD students and early career scientists, and provide opportunities for going on field trips to do sampling and instant assaying.

- response of water bodies and their communities to climate change
- sustainable use, protection and management of water resources
- modeling of hydrological and ecosystem processes
- bioresources of large water bodies
- bioindication, biomonitoring, ecotoxicological assessment of water quality
- bottom sediments: geochemistry, palaeoecological and paleoclimatic reconstructions of water bodies and their catchment areas
IMPORTANT DEADLINES
The deadline for electronic registration is March 15, 2016

The deadline for submissions of manuscript for conference proceedings is March 15, 2016
June 1, 2016 – notification of manuscript review results and preliminary programme posting
August 10, 2016 – finalizing the conference programme
